Locker Room Report: Mark Gottfried

DURHAM, N.C. -- NC State head coach Mark Gottfried met with the media following the loss to Duke.

"It was a tough night for us, a tough finish."

"I thought our foul trouble really strapped us. It really made it difficult and we lost our aggressiveness. That hurt."

"We've got to do a better job of defending without fouling."

"I thought our kids battled really hard."

"We're a good team, but we've got to find a way to become a little bit better."

"I thought we were very aggressive... I thought when Richard, Calvin, and C.J. Williams got four fouls we became tentative."

"We're like any team. We'd like to have those guys to start the game in there."

"I thought when our bigs defended ball screens with four fouls they were so cautious."

"I'm proud of my team. I think we've proven we're a good team. We've proved that. We've done it throughout the year and we did it tonight."

"We're going to hold our head high and get ourselves ready for the next game."

"We're going to get better. We're close, but we're not there."

"I thought Calvin was just sensational until he got into foul trouble and then the game changed for him when he was in foul trouble."

"We were really good at times, especially early, but we were not good the last ten. That's on me, on us. We've got to get better."

"We had the long break before that so we had already set up what we were going to do. We wanted Scott to come off some screens and they did a nice job defending him."

"I thought the story of the game, and I'm not knocking officiating, but our foul trouble. We've got to defend better without fouling."

"We've got to be a better defensive team without fouling. That really changed the last ten minutes."
