Class of 2004: Brandon Daniels

Pompano Beach (FL) Ely Defensive End Brandon Daniels has put up impressive numbers during his high school career, despite sharing the spotlight with some of the best players in the state of Florida.

"We've put alot of players in college from my high school," Brandon told StateFans. "Last year, Cyrus (Wimbs), Andrew (Bain), and Tyrez (McCray) all went to Miami. Clint Sessions went to Pittsburgh and James [Martin] is going to play for NC State. It was fun playing with all those guys, and it's helped me with going to college because alot of schools have seen me now."

Last year, playing opposite James Martin at Defensive End, Daniels had 12 sacks and 55 tackles; while earning 2nd-team All-County honors. Those numbers have helped him receive college interest from around the nation.

"I'm hearing from schools like Miami, Florida, Michigan State, NC State, and more from everywhere. I've received alot of verbal offers, but only Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Mississippi State, and Wisconsin have put anything in writing."

With so many ex-teammates heading to college, surely several have been pressing Daniels to attend the same schoool as them.

"Yea, a couple of the guys want me to continue the tradition at Miami, and Clint's talking up Pittsburgh. James Martin played Defensive End opposite me and he's talking to me about playing with him at NC State too."

The 6-foot-4 270 pound Daniels recently attended the Miami NIKE Camp, but decided to not participate in any workouts. This summer he plans on attending the Rutgers team camp and maybe a couple of individual one-day camps as well.

"I may attend a few camps, I'm not sure yet. Right now I'm just taking my time and looking for the best opportunity for me to play early. I'm in no hurry to choose a school."

In regards to NC State, Brandon acknowledges that it's a strong program with good Florida ties.

"NC State's a good team, and they have a couple of guys up there from my high school. It's a rising program and they are showing alot of interest in me."
