Baltimore (MD) Frederick Douglass wide receiver Paul Harris is up to five offers and he visited NC State this past weekend.
The 6-4, 185-pound receiver has caught the eye of numerous college coaches with his length and ability to stretch a defense deep. He has offers from NC State, Penn State, Maryland, Virginia and East Carolina with more sure to come.
Pack Pride caught up with Harris recently and he talked about his time in Raleigh.
"It was good. It was only my second visit so it was still all new to me," Harris explained. "The one that impressed me the most was the wide receivers coach, Coach Bible. He was really different (than other coaches). I caught a different vibe from him. I don't know if that's just the game or how they talk but based on the conversation and what he said I really liked him a lot.
"That and it's a big facility. Everything at the campus is real spaced out."
What did Bible say that caught Harris' attention?
"He told me everybody likes my height, speed and range," he continued. "He told me he liked my height a lot. I guess in the past they haven't had that many tall receivers but they've had the short, quick ones. He was telling me they're really going to be moving up and I would be a great fit for them. He said NC State would be a great fit for me."
After the trip Harris says he has a lot of interest in NC State but isn't ready to talk about favorites.
Auburn is the one other school Harris has visited and the Tigers thoroughly impressed him as well.
"I was at Auburn not last week but the week before that and that was a junior day too. I really liked it down there. I really like Coach Trooper and Coach Thigpen. Me and Coach Trooper and my mom built a strong relationship. We've always been talking to Coach Thigpen."
Harris said the Auburn coaches haven't offered him but have said the next best thing.
"They told me on June 10 if I go up there (for a camp) I'll most likely get an offer. The coaches said they don't offer receivers unless they go to camp first. All of them go to camp. He said the only reason they wouldn't offer is if I go and really stink it up but that probably won't happen. I'm really confident about that," he explained.
As a junior Harris totaled 28 receptions for nearly 900 yards and 13 touchdowns.
