NC State has extended an offer to one of the top athletes from the state of Maryland.
Most schools are recruiting Forestville (MD) Bishop McNamara's Kevin Robbins as a defensive end but NC State has other plans for him.
"NC State is the one school that has offered me as a tight end," Robbins told Pack Pride.
Is the 6-4, 230-pound prospect okay with that idea? After all, most schools believe his potential lies on the defensive side of the ball and that's where he has most of his experience.
"I'm open to playing anywhere at the next level," Robbins said. "I plan on taking a visit to NC State at some point to talk to them more about that and see what their thoughts are. That visit might be in May or June, whenever I visit North Carolina since they're so close. It's just tough because there's limited time and so many schools I have to visit.
"I've been in contact with some of the NC State coaches and I'm definitely considering them. I just want to take my visit. It's hard to evaluate them without really going to the school and seeing for yourself."
Robbins has already visited Georgia Tech, Penn State, Maryland and West Virginia, so he will have plenty to compare NC State and North Carolina to once he hits those schools on Tobacco Road.
Did any of those visits stand out?
"Not really," he responded. "They're all great schools but I don't really have any favorites so far. I just don't want to narrow it down right now. Different guys have different times when they want to narrow their lists. I'm still open right now. I want to get to as many schools as possible before I think about cutting my list down."
Robbins said he will "definitely" be taking at least some of his officials prior to making his decision.
"I'll just be looking for the overall atmosphere of a school to be good. That and how I fit in with the coaching staff. How do I fit in with their scheme and what they want to do? Those are the important things I'll be looking for," he said.
He also said playing time would be a big factor in his decision.
Robbins currently holds offers from NC State, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Michigan State and Iowa.
