"Ford called coach Tenuta today from the coach's office at school and let coach Tenuta know that he was going to be a part of the Wolfpack," said Jim Howell, Ford's father. "Ford is excited about it. Coach Tenuta came in on Wednesday unannounced just to see him and that impressed him.
"He's always liked NC State ever since we visited back for their junior day after they offered. I encouraged him to go to some other junior days and he never wavered."
At 6-2, 220 pounds Howell possesses good size and he utilized that to help tally 68 tackles, five tackles for loss and one fumble recovery as a junior.
NC State is recruiting him to play weakside or middle linebacker, and Ford's relationship with linebackers coach Jon Tenuta was critical to his decision. The Wolfpack extended an early offer to Howell with Tenuta serving as his recruiting coach.
"He loves coach Tenuta," said Mr. Howell. "Coach Tenuta has had two kids in the past from where Ford goes to school, and he knows what they are all about. He said they are great kids who work hard and go in and get the job done. He loved them both and said the opportunity to get another one in Ford would be big for him."
Howell was receiving strong interest from programs such as Northwestern, BC, Duke, Vanderbilt, Miss. State, Ole Miss, and Wake Forest.
Pack Pride will have more on Howell's decision in the near future so stay tuned!
