Wolfpack Active in South Florida

NC State has a commitment from Miami (FL) Central's Da'Wan Hunte but hopes to land one more prospect from the Dade County powerhouse.

Last week Da'Wan Hunte verbally committed to NC State. Could that help the Wolfpack with another big-time player from the school?

That's the question Pack Pride asked when we caught up with three-star prospect Ahmad Thomas, the No. 33 safety in the nation according to Scout.com.

"We've got two separate things going on," Thomas replied. "He (Hunte) told me about it (his commitment) but he didn't tell me at the time. He told me afterwards. He just told me to wait 'til I go down there to visit and see how I like it. I'm definitely going to visit NC State."

Thomas said he and Hunte are pretty tight and though his teammate's decision won't influence his it certainly can't hurt to have a familiar face on board with NC State.

Defensive coordinator Mike Archer has been recruiting Thomas since around last November.

"I feel comfortable with him," Thomas said of Archer. "He's a good communicator. You can go to the sideline and have a conversation with Coach Archer.

"The thing that stands out to me about NC State is their academics. I want to major in computer engineering and they have an awesome program for that. Coach Archer was explaining to me that they're basically as good as anybody in that."

For a while NC State was Thomas' co-favorite. NC State hasn't dropped but the other school has.

"It was just Notre Dame and NC State but my interest in Notre Dame has fallen off a little bit.

"I still want to visit Notre Dame and probably USF. I'll just say NC State is one of my top schools but I'm still looking at others."

The 6-0, 195-pound safety from Miami Central (Fla.) plans to make his decision during his senior season.

Thomas finished his junior season with 84 tackles, one sack, and one interception.
