Pack is a Player for Coverdale

NC State should be getting a visit from Chagrin Falls (Ohio) Kenston offensive lineman Sam Coverdale this summer. Pack Pride has the latest on NC State's chances.

When Sam Coverdale is evaluating the colleges that have offered him he has a pretty clear idea of what he's looking for.

First of all he wants to find a school that has a strong engineering program. Academics are important to the 6-7, 280-pound offensive tackle from Chagrin Falls (Ohio) Kenston.

That's one point that could work in NC State's favor.

"Yeah, they've got a really good engineering program," Coverdale noted. "I called Coach Bridge up the other day. They're a good ACC school and they've got that combination of football and academics that I'm looking for."

Will he visit the school at some point?

"Definitely," he said. "My grandma lives in North Carolina so I'll get to spend some time with her and while I"m there I'll visit NC State, UNC, Wake Forest, Duke and all those schools."

NC State is the only school in the state that has offered Coverdale but he wants to see what the others have to offer nonetheless.

One school that Coverdale is clearly high on is Northwestern. He won't say the Wildcats are his favorite but he admits they're pretty high on his list.

"I'm going back up there to Northwestern next week after my ACT is done. I'll be there Wednesday night and Thursday," he explained.

"I think they're going to be in my top five. I really like them so far. They've been doing a really good job recruiting me and I like the combination they have with football and academics."

Two other schools are likely to crack that top five and it might surprise you to find out who they are.

"Right now Harvard and Yale are up there. Everyone else after that is kind of just rounding out the list until I find out more. I haven't had a chance to do my due diligence on everyone. I went to Harvard and I really liked it up there." has ranked Coverdale a three-star prospect and the No. 44 tackle in the nation.
