NC State is in good shape with one of the top athletes from the Peach State.
The Wolfpack, along with Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville and Wake Forest, have verbally offered Darren Dowdell, a 6-4, 225-pound versatile rising senior from Grady High School in Atlanta.
Last year at Grady, Dowdell caught 50 passes, and though he wasn't sure of his yardage he said he reached the end zone 10 times. On defense he picked off two passes and scored two more touchdowns.
"Most teams have offered me at tight end but some are saying outside linebacker," Dowdell noted. "I don't really care but I have been playing offense longer."
Dowdell said he hasn't had a lot of personal interaction with the coaches from NC State but noted that the Pack has offered and sent him camp information.
"That's one (camp) I'll definitely be going to," he said. "My favorites are NC State, Kentucky and Wake Forest but that's not in order.
"With NC State I just like their whole football program. Same with Wake Forest.
"At Kentucky I like how they've got a good football program and a great basketball program so they're kind of balanced. All their athletics are very good. Those are the three main ones for now."
Dowdell was quick to point out that he hasn't entirely narrowed his focus to those three schools and he said a decision won't be coming anytime soon.
He also wants to camp at Wake Forest. Over the weekend Dowdell was in Lexington.
He pointed out that his current three favorites are in good shape to receive official visits in the fall, though he hasn't set any dates yet.
