Rodon a Golden Spikes Semifinalist

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State's Carlos Rodon represents the only remaining freshman among the 2012 Golden Spikes Award semifinalists, released Tuesday by USA Baseball.

The announcement comes just days after Rodon unleashed a 12-strikeout, shutout performance over nine innings against North Carolina in the ACC Tournament. With the outing, Rodon climbed to fourth on NC State's single season strikeout list with 126 for the year.

The Holly Springs, N.C. native already took ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors, and still remains in the running for the NCBWA's Dick Howser Trophy. Rodon represents the only freshman on either list.

In addition to his conference accolades, Rodon was one of three Wolfpackers named to the All-ACC First team, and figures to play a factor in upcoming announcements for All-American and the Freshman All-American teams.

On May 26, Aaron Fitt from Baseball America said of Rodon: "Said it before, but I'll reiterate after seeing Rodon tonight: If he were draft-eligible, he would go first overall [in this year's MLB draft]."
