Postgame PC: NC State-Vanderbilt

RALEIGH, NC -- Elliot Avent, Ryan Wilkins, Trea Turner and Matt Bergquist spoke to the media following the Pack's 6-5 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday night.

Postgame Press Conference

Elliott Avent

"It's kind of redundant, but there is a reason that happened. If you don't believe in yourself, all the way through, then it's never going to happen. That's what this team has been all about. They haven't lost more than two games in a row all year, they've been consistent since our first weekend. Their character was high and it got higher as the season went through."

"Everything our administration did this weekend, I've been here for a long time. We've hosted a couple of regionals, and everything was done in a first class manner. There were so many people involved, I heard nothing but how professional this was, from concessions to bleachers."

"I don't think you can carry the emotion over, but every time you win a game like this it makes you a little bit tougher. It makes you believe you can do anything. So yes, there is something we can gain from this game. When you do something like this, nothing scares you quite as much."

"These players refuse to quit. If you always refuse to quit, it's one of the sayings that made us famous here. The one the great Coach Valvano said. And that was a different scenario, but it applies to everything in life."

Tarran Senay

We fought and fought. This team never gives up. It's so fun to play, it's excitement. Luckily, my teammates gave me an opportunity to get big hits. Vanderbilt is a great team, but luckily we came out with a win today."

"I didn't think he was going to throw another slider, so I guess I sat on the fastball, you could say that. I took a swing, it went out, luckily."

"That was unbelievable, for us to come out and get this victory."

"In the back of my mind I always think (I'm going to hit a home run.) Maybe that's why my average is so low."

Ryan Wilkins

"The crowd was electric, like everybody said. The fans were great. I was pretty much trying to spot up my fastball and mix in some sliders."

Ryan Mathews

"We've been down a lot, and that's one thing about this team, we don't look too far ahead. We're just trying to win each inning and win each pitch. Nobody is ever going to give up and we just kept fighting."

"It's going to be interesting. The junior college I went to was actually in Gainesville too, so I'll have a lot of haters and hopefully a lot of fans out there. It's a Super Regional, no different than anywhere else. It will be a lot of fun."
