Pack Emerging as Major Player for Mizzell

NC State has made a huge jump with four-star tailback Taquan Mizzell. Pack Pride has the latest on his recruitment.

Taquan Mizzell recently narrowed things down and NC State is still in play.

That's big news for the Pack as the Virginia Beach (VA) Bayside prospect is one of the nation's top running backs. At 5-10 and 180-pounds Mizzell is ranked the No. 29 back in the nation and a four star prospect by

While not the biggest back around, Mizzell has a good frame but his calling card is speed and acceleration. He can hit his top end speed in the blink of an eye but also has the body control to set up defenders for a quick cut. Mizzell then uses his 4.4 speed to out run defenders. He also runs hard and shows incredible vision.

NC State is just one of many schools working overtime to land Mizzell. The Pack has come on strong of late and appears to have emerged as a team to be reckoned with.

"I really like NC State," Mizzell told Pack Pride this week. "I've kinda started to come around on them and like them more and more lately."

One reason Mizzell has warmed to the Pack is his relationship with the coach that's recruiting him.

"My recruiting coach is Keith Willis and me and him have a real good relationship," Mizzell said. "He's come down and I know they really want me a lot. They've been recruiting me hard and I think it would be a good fit. That's a place where I feel like I could get early playing time."

Mizzell has never visited NC State but outside of Virginia he hasn't visited too many of the schools he's still listing.

Recently the four-star prospect narrowed his list to NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Clemson, Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State and West Virginia, in no particular order.

Where will he take things from here?

"Maybe sometime in the next month I'll narrow it down again," Mizzell said. "I don't think I'm going to take my officials because I'm trying to make my decision before the season starts."
