One of the younger players to make a name for himself at NC State's camp last year was Wilson (NC) Hunt's defensive end Lewis Neal. The rising junior performed well in front of Wolfpack defensive line coach Keith Willis and showed off an impressive first step and non stop motor. It didn't take long for NC State to pull the trigger on an offer which also happened to be Neal's first.
Fast forward just one year. Neal now holds offers from the likes of Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and UNC and has become one of the most sought-after prospects in the state of North Carolina.
Neal initially committed to Ohio State after an unofficial visit earlier this spring but decided shortly afterwards that he'd made a hasty decision. He backed off that pledge and is now back on the market. With attention coming from around the nation, do the in-state schools have a shot at landing Neal?
"I'm still looking at schools like UNC and NC State because they're in-state schools and you've got to represent the home state."
For the Pack, coach Willis has been their ace and done an admirable job of keeping State in the hunt.
"I really like coach Willis and they were my first offer so you know that's always going to play a role. They're only 35 minutes away so it's easy for me to go back and visit them at any time."
Speaking of visits, Neal has two big ones scheduled later this month. After that, a visit back to NC State is a possibility.
"I'm visiting LSU on June 23rd and then I visit Tennessee," said Neal. "After that I'll go back and visit some of the schools I've already visited. But those two are the only two I haven't visited so far."
Neal said he intends to make a final decision on his collegiate destination prior to his senior season.
