Meeks Remains Wide Open

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- Kennedy Meeks headed up to the NBPA Top 100 Camp looking to prove he was one of the top players in his class, and he did just that.

Kennedy Meeks headed up to the NBPA Top 100 Camp looking to prove he was one of the top players in his class, and he did just that.

Rated the No. 3 center in the country by Scout.com, Meeks was efficient on both ends and rebounded at a high rate. He had a couple of double-doubles and even showed an expanded perimeter game, knocking down a few 3-pointers during the tournament.

"I've been working on my shot," said Meeks, laughing. "I did hit some from deep."

However, at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds, Meeks knows that he is most effective in the paint. He gobbles up rebounds on both ends and plays with a patience in the post, where he either looks to spin baseline and finish at the rim or find open teammates when the defense helps.

"Growing up, I didn't play with a lot of quicker guys," he said. "Now I'm used to playing with them, and I know that when I post up I have to get them the ball. That's why when I have it down low I want them to cut to the hoop... I'm going to find them for baskets."

NC State is one of the schools that has been on Meeks the longest. The Wolfpack have two coaches handling his recruitment and are certainly making him a priority.

"NC State, they've been on my a long time," said Meeks. "I would say since probably my ninth grade year, and now coach Early and coach Bobby Lutz are recruiting me. They are cool dudes. I know they'll be close to you if you go to NC State.

"NC State is an in-state school so I've been watching them a lot. They are recruiting me very hard. They are just like my high school with how coach Gottfried is. He's aggressive, and he wants it done right then and there."

His overall ability is why Meeks is so coveted by college programs. He holds offers from schools like NC State, North Carolina, Louisville, Georgetown, Syracuse, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Georgia, and Georgia Tech among others.

"I'm open right now," said Meeks. "I don't have a top five or anything like that... I'm looking at all those colleges.

"I've talked to Indiana, Georgetown, NC State, [North] Carolina, and Louisville about visiting sometime soon."

Does Meeks have a timeframe for making a decision?

"I really don't know," he stated. "I'm going to decide whenever I'm ready.

"It's going to be a hard decision because I like a lot of the schools. I'm looking for a team that is going to win and plays the right way."
