Name: Charlie Hegedus
Hometown: Marietta, Georgia
High School: Lassiter
Position: Wide Receiver
Notes: The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder posted prolific numbers as a senior, totaling 69 catches for 1,156 yards and 12 touchdowns while leading his team to the state semifinals. The production led to a late offer from Oklahoma State, a program that has produced talented wideouts like Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon.
"That last month before signing day was crazy," said Hegedus. "Everyone started getting my senior film and schools started flying in to see me.
"Oklahoma State offered late... it was intriguing, I actually thought about it. But, I said no to them and basically all the schools. I was attracted to them, but it just didn't feel right."
A program that flirted with offering Hegedus a scholarship was Georgia. In fact, there was some buzz on signing day that if the Bulldogs missed on a certain recruit they would offer Hegedus, but he didn't wait around to see if that would happen... he sent in his letter of intent to NC State before the other recruit even decided.
"Even if Georgia did offer I would have still signed with NC State," said Hegedus. "I knew throughout the whole process the situation with them. I was talking to them in December. They were talking about offering but were waiting on a JUCO guy... they told me he was going to decide on signing day.
"But, I kept thinking about it and NC State had been on me since the summer when I committed. They were loyal to me and recruited me hard the whole time so I knew I wanted to go there."
