Daikiel Shorts was a standout at NC State's camp over the summer and his performance was enough to earn an offer from the Wolfpack coaches.
The Maryland wideout has visited NC State, North Carolina, West Virginia, Boston College and Temple in recent weeks. He even took a trip out to Boise State this summer. With a number of schools now on his list, Shorts talked recently with Pack Pride about his thoughts on NC State.
The three-star prospect said he has a good relationship with Mike Reed. That and his visit to NC State are two of the main reasons he really likes the Wolfpack.
"I know a lot of coaches are on vacation and just getting back," he said. "I had been speaking to Coach Reed a lot and they've been keeping in touch with my dad.
"I went down to their camp and that's when they offered. I liked it a lot down there. I had never been there so I didn't know what to expect but I really liked the campus and the football facilities. I liked Coach Reed and I met with the head coach to hear what he had to say."
What was O'Brien's message for the 6-1, 200-pound receiver?
"He told me if I want to go to school to play DB then that would definitely be a good option," he said. "They've got a lot of DB's that should be leaving so I liked to hear that."
Shorts is being recruited by different schools for different sides of the ball so that's a decision that we won't know until he chooses a college.
Ranked the No. 90 receiver in the nation, Shorts said he hasn't narrowed his list down but will probably do that soon. He's visiting West Virginia again within the next week and hopes to narrow it down after that.
Both NC State and West Virginia have offered as have Boise State, Maryland and Boston College.
