Junior Defensive Tackle Hauls in Pack Offer

NC State has offered Winston-Salem (NC) Parkland junior defensive tackle Deshaywn Middleton a scholarship.

Deshaywn Middleton picked up a huge offer this week and the excitement in his voice was evident as he broke the news.

Middleton has long been considered a player to watch among those who follow the state's prep scene closely. He's had offers from some smaller programs for a while, including Elon, App State, ODU, The Citadel and others.

More recently he has picked up offers from East Carolina and NC State. The verbal offer from the Wolfpack came in the middle of last week and Middleton didn't find out about it right away. His coach broke the news to him and the Parkland High School defensive lineman was thrilled by the news.

"I just got off the phone with NC State's coach Mike Reed and he just told me I'm a good impact player they'd love to have," Middleton said. "They said I'm young and they think I'm good for that type of defense they're running. They hope to keep up a lot of good contact with me. He told me to keep working hard and to stay in shape. He said he hopes I have a great season and he would keep me updated.

"He also said he's really looking forward to me coming up to some of their games. They want me to come up August 19. I probably will because I don't think I have anything to do. They have a recruiting day for all the players they've offered and they'll have a little scrimmage throughout the day. I'll probably go see that. I'm just excited they actually offered me. I didn't think I had done too well at the camp but after they reviewed my film they said they want people that can play football. They said I'm a good player with good size and I'm young."

Boasting a ton of upside, tThe 6-2, 295 pound junior has plenty of talent and he's only scratching the surface. He's likely to pick up more offers from other ACC schools over the next year so the Pack's staff likely wanted an early jump on Middleton's recruiting.

What does Middleton think about NC State?

"Right now the only time I've been up there was with my brother and then for camp. Really right now I just like the way coach Reed is reaching out to me. He kept his word too. When I first talked to him he said, 'Just keep working hard and I'll have an offer for you.' I like when coaches keep their word and he did.

"I've got a really good friend up there (K'Hadree Hooker) and the way he talks about them is really good. I like the way he talks about the coaches and how they treat the players."

Middleton camped at State and he said that was his only college trip of the summer. He hopes to visit North Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest and some other ACC schools down the road.
