Young Won't Forget his NC State Visit

I first saw Palm Beach Gardens (FL) Defensive End Willie Young at last year's NC State/Florida State football game held in Carter-Finley Stadium. <P> He came away very impressed with the visit.

"I made that NC State and Florida State game and I hadn't seen anything like it!" Young told StateFans. "I liked everything about the visit... from the game to all the facilities. My family drove up for the game and they loved the place to. It was really worth the long ride, I can tell you that!"

Nearly a year later, Young is one of the most coveted Defensive End prospects in the nation, with roughly a dozen scholarship offers at the moment.

"South Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, UCF, NC State, Georgia, Nebraska, Wake Forest, Auburn, and Florida have all offered me scholarships. Schools like Florida State and Miami have just started to recruit me but they haven't offered yet."

Willie attended the recent Miami NIKE Camp and measured in at 6-foot-4 and 203 pounds. He impressed those in attendance with his 4.6 speed and a 4.37 shuttle. That type of athleticism led to a productive junior season for Young.

"My team finished 9-2 last year and we lost in the first round of the playoffs. I had 60 tackles, 15 TFL, 10 sacks, and 6 batted passes for the year. I think we are going to be alot better this year and our team is moving up to the Class 6A... we were Class 5A before."

Although he played only defensive end in high school, some schools are recruiting Young for another position. What does he think about this?

"Linebacker... a couple of schools have mentioned it. I have no idea why they want me to play there, but I think it's because of my quickness and agility. I do love rushing the quarterback off the edge, but honestly I'll play anywhere as long as I see the field. If it's at linebacker, then that's fine with me."

With such a long list of early offers (and more to certainly follow), Willie has no leaders and is in no hurry to decide.

"I have no idea of any favorites. I'm just trying to get to know all these schools before February. By then I should be ready to choose the best school for me."

And what does he think about the Wolfpack?

"That visit will always stay with me because it was my first and it was so good. NC State has a good program and they are recruiting me hard. Coach Amato and Coach Doc Holliday came by my school and they are good people. They will definitely get an official visit from me, I can tell you that." Recruiting Evaluation: DE Willie Young
