Primetime With The Pack to Kick Off Season

RALEIGH, N.C. – Fireworks, shooting contests, cheerleaders, mascots, a house DJ and basketball will all come together for Primetime With The Pack, the official tip-off event of the 2012-13 NC State men's basketball season on Friday, Oct. 12, at PNC Arena.

Admission and parking are free to the public with doors opening at 6 p.m., and the festivities beginning at 7 p.m.

Wolfpack fans will be introduced to this year's squad and coaching staff via a grand entrance of fireworks, spotlights and house music.

The event will be one of seven to be broadcast live in its entirety on ESPN3 with Sam Gore and former college coach Bruce Pearl providing on-site analysis of the action. Highlights of the evening's activities will be also featured as part of ESPNU's four hours of midnight madness whip-around coverage.

"Primetime With The Pack' will be an exciting way for our program to celebrate the start of the upcoming season with our fans," head coach Mark Gottfried said. "With ESPN3 and ESPNU's coverage of the event, we can take the excitement of Wolfpack basketball to our fans, not only on a national level, but on a global one as well."

NC State -- picked in the top 10 of several preseason polls, including No. 4 by Blue Ribbon Basketball Preview and No. 6 by ESPN analyst Andy Katz -- returns starters junior guard Lorenzo Brown (12.7 ppg, 6.3 apg), senior center Richard Howell (10.8 ppg, 9.2 rpg), junior forward C.J. Leslie (14.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and junior forward Scott Wood (12.4 ppg, .409 3-pt pct). Making its debut at the event will be the freshman class of Tyler Lewis, Rodney Purvis and T.J. Warren.

One NC State fan will have the opportunity to win $50,000. The contestant, selected randomly must make a layup, a free throw, a three pointer and a half court shot in 25 seconds to win the prize.

The Pack then will showcase its long-range accuracy with team members competing in a three-point contest. Each head-to-head round will last a minute with the top two players advancing to the championship round.

The highlight of the evening's activities will be the team's intra-squad scrimmage featuring pre-game and game action conducted against a backdrop of music, highlight videos and the master of ceremonies, Kornelius "Korn" Bascombe, interacting with the crowd.

A 45-minute autograph session with the players and coaches follows the scrimmage, concluding in time for the crowd to take in the Friday night fireworks show at the North Carolina State Fair across the street from PNC Arena.

As part of the evening's festivities, there is a campout planned for NC State students at PNC Arena with several activities scheduled throughout the night.
