Linebacker has been a position of emphasis for the NC State coaching staff this year and the commitment of Jerod Fernandez certainly bolstered their efforts when he decided to run with the Pack last summer.
Although busy with his senior season, Fernandez was able to make his official visit to Raleigh recently and he couldn't have picked a better weekend to make the trip.
The Lake Mary (FL) standout was one of several prospects on hand for the Wolfpack's comeback win over Florida State, and he talked with Pack Pride about the visit.
"That was the game out of all of them that I wanted to go to," he said. "It wasn't a surprise. The defense played real good."
Mike Reed and Jon Tenuta are the coaches that have been talking to Fernandez more than any others from the staff. Evidently they have been doing a good job as Fernandez doesn't plan on visiting any other schools.
That doesn't mean other schools have given up.
"I don't have an offer from TCU but one of their coaches hits me up now and again. I'm solid though. If I was to sign tomorrow that would be where I'm going," he said.
Lake Mary's middle linebacker is a big reason the Florida school is undefeated at 7-0. Fernandez is rated a two-star prospect and the No. 135 outside linebacker in the nation by Scout.com.
