Although he's committed to East Carolina, NC State has kept the lines of communication open with 4-star LB Deavris Brunson. He camped in Raleigh over the summer and was one of the top prospects in attendance but decided to commit to the Pirates a few weeks later.
Brunson is still committed to ECU but it's obvious the Lake City (SC) standout is still considering the Wolfpack. He was on hand for NC State's game against Florida State a few weeks back and the atmosphere of that game blew him away.
"Being there was a great feeling. It was my first time at North Carolina State (for a game) and I really enjoyed myself," he said. "They had a great celebration after the game. It was pretty intense with the coaches being there and everybody having a good time."
Just this past weekend he watched NC State lose a fourth quarter lead against North Carolina. But he just saw that game on television. While Brunson isn't on board with NC State you could sense that he was a bit upset with the way things ended.
"When I saw them return that punt for a touchdown it was over," he said. "UNC broke that winning streak they had against them."
East Carolina has made keeping Brunson one of their top recruiting priorities and they appear to be recruiting him just as hard as they were before he committed. But they know they're in a dogfight.
"I'm talking to coach Kitchings," he said. "I'm still committed to ECU but I'm still open to other schools. I'm going to take some officials and see how things go from there."
Lake City has a bye in the first round of the state playoffs.
