NC State is one of more than a dozen schools recruiting defensive tackle Jaleel Fields from Aliquippa (PA).
No schools have offered yet but Fields noted that coaches from NC State, West Virginia, Ohio State, Pitt, Michigan State, Penn State, Cincinnati, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Rutgers and several others have let him know that they are impressed and will be recruiting him over the next year.
"It's a lot. It's about 15 schools that have let me know they're recruiting me," Fields said.
It's been mostly letters from the Wolfpack so far. Fields doesn't know a lot about the school but the fact that it's in a BCS conference has his attention.
"I'm interested in them but we'll see what happens. I sent my highlight tape out to a lot of people and they came up to the school," he said.
Academics are important to the 6'2, 255-pound lineman. As is finding a quality football program that will allow him to be part of a winning team.
Fields hasn't visited any colleges yet so he doesn't know what to expect. That changes this weekend as he travels to Columbus for Ohio State's season finale against Michigan, which serves as a bowl game of sorts for the Buckeyes.
Aliquippa's own season is still going strong. They have a perfect 12-0 record.
"I play all-around," Fields said. "D-Tackle, nose tackle and on offense I play right offensive tackle."
But Fields believes he will play defensive end in college.
