With offers on the table from Boston College, Penn State, UNC, NC State and Virginia Tech among others, Ricky Walker is one of the best defensive linemen on the Pack's 2014 recruiting board and the coaching change may give the program new life.
After showing some interest in the Wolfpack after the initial offer from NC State, Walker seemed to cool on the Pack after other offers flowed in. He hadn't eliminated State but it definitely appeared that his focus had shifted in a different direction with schools like Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Maryland and others frequently popping up.
Not so much NC State.
But this week the Hampton (VA) Bethel defensive tackle cited NC State when asked about which schools he wants to visit.
"West Virginia may be one. I'll check (Virginia) Tech out. I want to go to NC State again and that's it for now," he said.
Those trips aren't set but the fact that he mentioned those three schools is a good sign there's some real interest there. So the Wolfpack's recruiting efforts might not be in vain.
In spite of that comment he hasn't spoken to anyone from NC State lately.
But he's hoping to get the chance.
"I haven't talked to anybody there since the firing (of Tom O'Brien). I definitely have my interest in them and some other places. It's an ACC school and a pretty good school so we'll see."
Coaches from Virginia Tech, Maryland, Penn State and Duke have visited Bethel to check on Walker over the past week.
