Wide receiver Marquez Valdes had a stellar senior season for Saint Petersburg (FL) Lakewood High School, and his performance has led to several recent offers.

Valdes, who finished the year with 50 catches for 800+ yards 14 touchdowns, helped lead Lakewood to a 10-2 record.

"We had a good year," said Valdes. "I think it is helping my recruitment. I was kind of under the radar, but now more colleges are recruiting me."

With offers on the table from Houston, NC State, Kentucky, and Toledo among others, Valdes has already taken official visits to Houston and Toledo.

"I liked both of the visits," he said. "I enjoyed Houston a lot. It was a big city with great facilities. I thought it was a great place.

"I enjoyed Toledo too. I have a friend up there who I went to high school with, and he showed me around the city. I love the coaches, and they were the first to offer."

NC State recently entered the mix for Valdes. The Wolfpack's new coaching staff offered him a scholarship after evaluating his senior film. P> "I didn't have an offer from the old coaching staff at NC State," he stated. "The new coaches there, they said they watched my film and liked it. They think I can be a big factor for their school. They think I can come in and play for them... they are going to run a spread offense.

"I've been talking a lot with coach Jackson, the wide receivers coach. We've talked on the phone a few times. He seems like a nice guy... a genuine coach. He said he can teach me a lot and that he's going to come down and see me on I think the 5th of January."

Valdes has set visits to NC State (Jan. 11) and Kentucky (Jan. 18). He has another visit left, but isn't sure if he will take it. Does he have a favorite?

"No sir, I don't have a leader," he said. "I want take all of my visits first and then sit down with my coach and parents and talk about it."

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder projects to be a full qualifier.
