Gottfried: "They Are Really Good"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Mark Gottfried met with the media to discuss the upcoming game against Duke.

"When you play good teams in October and November it helps your team become seasoned."

"Everybody is excited. It's an opportunity to play the No. 1 team in the country, and they've earned the right to be there."

"They've beaten good teams... they've played really good teams."

"No one has been able to knock them off the perch."

"They are really good. They can score the basketball and have a number of different guys that can score. Plumlee is having a phenominal year this year as an interior player."

"Obviously, defensively they are very good. They really do a good job of penetrating and getting in the paint."

"We were a different team. The guys that played in the game last year, they remember it."

"They'll be different. I don't know all the different ways... Ryan has been shooting the ball really well and playing at a high level. They may be better in some areas, defensively or other areas. Who knows? They'll still be really good, with or without him."

"It's not like you've been able to watch two or three games and say this is how they are going to play."

"We are going to play to our strengths."

"We're going to go to the basket. That's what we do. It's what we do everytime. We attack the rim pretty well. We go inside pretty well."

"[Quinn Cook] has improved a great deal from last year to this year."

"We like to go places. I think it helps to grow your team. I think you need to take your team on the road, put them in tough environments and play good teams every year."

"You hope that the teams within the league don't choose to soften up their non-league, which is understandable sometimes because you have so many league games now."

"I like having some tough games early. Sometimes your record doesn't end up being as glamorous, but I think it ends up helping your team."
