Pack Battling Badgers for Fumagalli

Tight end Troy Fumagalli talks about his official visit to NC State. Can the Pack overtake the Badgers for the Aurora (ILL) Waubonsie Valley standout?

Aurora (ILL) Waubonsie Valley tight end Troy Fumagalli was a major prospect for Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren while he was still at Northern Illinois and that didn't change when he made the move to NC State.

The Pack wasted no time offering Fumagalli a scholarship in the hopes of swaying him from his commitment to Wisconsin and had a chance to host him on an official visit this weekend.

"It was awesome," said Fumagalli. "I was already familiar with most of the coaching staff so that wasn't a big thing. But it was a great place. I met a lot of great people and I liked the campus a lot. I liked how everything was.

"Joe Thuney hosted me on my visit. He answered all my questions truthfully. He was a great host. He helped me out with any questions I had. I had a ton of questions since it was my first time being in North Carolina. I had a lot of fun."

Fumagalli also had a chance to take in NC State's upset of top-ranked Duke on Saturday so how was the atmosphere?

"It was unbelievable. There was never one dull moment at that basketball game."

As for where Fumagalli goes from here, the 6-6, 225 pound senior says he plans to use all the time available to come to a final decision.

"I'm still probably going to use up all the time I have to think about my final decision. I still stand committed to Wisconsin but NC State is right up there as well. I think State and Wisconsin are my final two because I've built the strongest relationships with those two coaching staffs."

Fumagalli had been offered a walk-on spot by the former Wisconsin staff but said he wasn't sure where he stood with the new staff.

He will have an in-home visit with coach Doeren on Tuesday. Fumagalli is rated the No. 83 tight end in the nation by
