Wilson Talks About Visit to State

Hampton (VA) Phoebus DE Mark Wilson talks about his weekend visit to NC State.

Standing 6-4 and 220 pounds, Hampton (VA) Phoebus defensive end Mark Wilson has grown into an imposing high school defender. With 65 tackles, 20 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and eight fumble recoveries as a senior, he caught the eye of the NC State coaching staff.

Wilson had an offer from NC State head coach Dave Doeren when Doeren was still at Northern Illinois. That interest carried over to Raleigh but for now the Pack is still evaluating Wilson for a potential offer down the road.

State hosted Wilson on an official visit this weekend and the senior defensive end talked about his experience at the NC State-Duke basketball game and his visit as a whole.

"The basketball game was real exciting. It was the first time I went to a game like that. I actually ran out on the court after the game.

"It (the visit) was real great. They really sold themselves. They have an actual plan and they know how to execute it. The staff and the athletic director and everybody is on board. K'Hadree Hooker hosted me on the visit. He's real cool. I met a lot of the players. We were all just joking around. I hung out with them and they were all real cool."

So what is the Wolfpack saying about the possibility of a scholarship offer down the road?

"Coach McNutt is the guy that is recruiting me. He explained it that they have to fill some other positions on the depth chart and they'll be in contact. I thought I had an offer. They offered me at Northen Illinois and then just called one day and asked if I was ready to come visit NC State."

Wilson had committed to Old Dominion last summer and after his visit to Raleigh this past weekend, he has some concerns about his standing with the Monarchs.

"That's the problem right there. ODU didn't want me to take the visit so I don't know if they're going to pull back or not."

While Wilson waits to find out his status with Old Dominion, he plans to host another school this week.

"Missouri is coming on an in-home visit soon. I was going to Cincinnati but since I went to NC State I cut them off."
