Pack Trying to Sway Spartan Commit?

NC State is trying to get in the game with Michigan State commit Demetrius Cooper. Pack Pride has the latest on his interest in the Wolfpack.

Contrary to some rumors floating around Michigan State defensive end commit Demetrius Cooper has not set an official visit to NC State.

But it might happen soon.

"My friend Khairi Bailey was going to visit them on January 11 but my parents couldn't get off work that week. We can't set it up for this week but we're going to talk more about it. It will probably be sometime later (in January)," Cooper said.

It's far from a given that Cooper will back out of his commitment to Michigan State.

Cooper didn't start hearing from NC State until the coaching change, but he was familiar with Dave Doeren well before he took his new job in Raleigh. Does he think it's a pretty good staff?

"They were recruiting me at NIU," he said. "They're a great staff. More than pretty good. I've been following them for a while."

Ryan Nielson is recruiting Cooper as a stand-up defensive end. The three-star end only played in one game this year because of transfer issues that forced him out of action.

Cooper has an official visit to Michigan State set for January 18 and said he could visit Iowa and other schools.

While he's open to hearing what NC State has to say, Cooper may be hesitant to choose a school so far from home.

"The biggest thing is distance. My parents don't want me to go too far. They want to come to my games. Basically it's distance," he said. "That and the school atmosphere. I've got to feel comfortable."
