A report surfaced this morning that Weston (FL) Cypress Bay RB Matt Dayes had switched his commitment to Vanderbilt after previously being committed to NC State.
The news came after a hectic few weeks that saw State work tirelessly to hold on to Dayes while the three-star running back completed official visits to Central Florida and Vanderbilt.
However, Dayes cleared the air Wednesday evening with a simple tweet- ‘My mind said Vanderbilt but my heart was telling me North Carolina state. Went with my heart. #Wolfpack #wpn'
Pack Pride caught up with Dayes shortly after the news and what led to his decision.
"It was just a gut feeling I had about NC State. I fell in love with it from the very beginning and it was just in my heart that that was where I wanted to go."
Dayes said the coaches were ecstatic to hear the news.
"Coach Kitchings was really excited. He told me I made his day. And really, the whole staff was just excited. I got to talk to all of them."
So what about the reports that Dayes was destined for Vanderbilt?
"I never committed to Vanderbilt."
Dayes added that he is set on NC State and is done with recruiting.
