Purvis: "It's A Gut-Check Game"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State freshman guard Rodney Purvis met with the media to discuss Saturday's game against Miami.

"It's motivation. Getting the opportunity to bounce back against a team that is playing really well. They say you are only as good as your next game."

"It's a gut-check game for us. We'll see what we're made of."

"Their record speaks for itself. Their resume speaks for itself also... they've knocked off Duke and Carolina. They are a pretty good team from what I'm hearing. We've just got to come in with the mindset to be ready to play."

"Me and Tyler [Lewis] have been sharing [the point guard] duties. It's an opportunity for us to step up while our junior point guard is sidelined right now."

"See where we're at, how much heart we've got. This is the kind of game we need at this point in the season. We'll see what we're made of."

"If Lorenzo subbed sometimes I would play the point even if he's hurt. It's something I've played in high school, AAU. I'm a combo guard. Playing point guard or two-guard, it's basically the same thing for me."

"I'm going to attack regardless, no matter what position I'm put in and either create for myself or my teammates and do whatever I've got to do to help the team win."

"It may take away a little bit [from scoring], but I wouldn't say much because once we get the defensive rebound the ball is in my hands. I push the ball up the court and I can either create for myself or my teammates. I'm best in transition so this actually plays into my favor."

"[Shane Larkin] is definitely pretty good. I guarded him when I was in ninth grade when I was playing with my AAU team. He's pretty good. All my coaches would challenge me to guard the best player no matter how old I was. This is another challenge for me. He's a really good player and that's about it. I've just got to come out and shut him down."

"We're not even sure if [Lorenzo Brown is] going to be out or not. The mentality is the same... we've just got to go out and play basketball."

"We have a lot of guys that can do a lot of things on this team. I always say we've got a lot of weapons on this team. With Lorenzo being out me and Tyler would be forced to fill some big shoes. We'll see how that goes."

"You never know what could happen. One of us could go out. We've just got to be ready to play... we were really good players in high school and have a resume of being good players. It's an opportunity to show it right now."
