Shirreffs led Jefferson (GA) to a 14-1 record and a state title, where they defeated Calhoun 31-14 in the Class AA title game in the Georgia Dome.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder totaled passed for 2,369 yards and 18 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. He also rushed for 1,372 yards and 20 touchdowns.
"We had a great year," said Shirreffs. "I'm not sure of all my stats, but we won a state title. I feel like I can both run and throw, but I'm a passing quarterback first. I'm always looking to throw the football. I'll just do what it takes for us to win."
A terrific student, Shirreffs holds offers from UAB, Yale, Dartmouth, Bucknell, and James Madison among others, and he has already taken official visits to Yale, Dartmouth, and Bucknell. He was expecting to visit UAB this weekend, but a new school recently joined the mix.
"Coach Kitchings is my recruiter," said Shirreffs. "I like him a lot. He's from the old staff and I've known him.
"Coach Doeren saw my film and on Monday we started talking. We talked about their quarterback situation and obviously I was interested. Then [Thursday] they offered me a scholarship and asked me to take my final official visit there."
It didn't take Shirreffs long to reach a decision. He confirmed via text message that he had committed to NC State.
"The school is where I'd like to spend four years. Football is top notch and the area is extremely appealing. I am very excited," Shirreffs said in a text message.
Pack Pride will have more on Shirreffs and his decision in the near future so stay tuned!
