Recruiting Scene: Jones had a complicated recruiting adventure before ultimately landing at NC State.

He originally committed to Toledo but switched over to Illinois last June when the Illini extended a scholarship offer. He began to have second thoughts during the fall and was subsequently offered a scholarship from NC State prior to the dismissal of Tom O'Brien.

Dave Doeren honored the scholarship offer to Jones and a week after making an official visit to Pittsburgh, Jones decided to switch his commitment to NC State just hours after completing his official visit in Raleigh.

Why NC State? "Coach Doeren is a winner. He proved that at Northern Illinois, going to the Orange Bowl being at a MAC school. The coaching staff wants to win now. They don't think about down the line. Then the facilities, atmosphere, and the fans around there are crazy."

Picked NC State Over: scholarship offers from Colorado, Pittsburgh and Illinois among others

Scouting Report: Jones is a big, physical safety who has played corner and returned kicks in high school. He's athletic, has the length you look for and has good closing speed. He can play in the deep part of the field, but his willingness to come up and support the run makes him an idea fit for the strong safety spot in college. May be one of the more under-appreciated players in the Midwest. - Scout.com
