Commit Date: Jan 17, 2013

Recruiting Scene: Means had attracted interest from a number of smaller level schools but it was his performance during preparation for the Shrine Bowl that caught the eye of several bigger colleges.

Further cementing his place as an FBS-caliber recruit occurred when he received a qualifying SAT score in December. NC State and UNC offered scholarships but from the beginning, Means seemed the most interested in the Wolfpack.

Means officially visited NC State on Jan 12 and listed the Pack as his favorite. He committed just a few days later during an in-home visit with Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren.

Why NC State? "Coach Doeren, coming in, he has a great philosophy and he wants to win games. That's what I'm all about. I'm just looking forward to going in, working hard and doing what I can to help the team win.

Besides that, the campus is great. I love the campus lifestyle. The weekend I had with them was amazing. I love all my teammates. I'm just excited."

Picked NC State Over: scholarship offer from UNC

Scouting Report: Means had one of the best games of any prospect at the Shrine Bowl. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety showed the ability to play both the pass and run very well. He is a good athlete and covers a lot of ground in the secondary. Means also does a nice job reading his keys and puts himself in position to make plays. Overall, he must get stronger, but he has a chance to be a very good college football player. - Michael Clark, Scout.com recruiting analyst
