Recruiting Scene: Alston, who landed early scholarship offers from programs like Arkansas, East Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, NC State, South Carolina, Syracuse, NC State, and North Carolina among others, narrowed his list to NC State, North Carolina, and Notre Dame over the summer before eventually cutting it to just the Tar Heels and Wolfpack.
He took unofficial visits to both schools but neither could create the separation needed to secure a commitment from Alston. However, that all changed late in January when NC State was able to get Alston on campus for an official visit.
The Wolfpack went in-home four days after the trip and secured a commitment from Alston before he could take his final official visit to North Carolina.
Why NC State? "I like the school and really like the coaches. I feel like it's a great fit for me."
Picked NC State Over: North Carolina, Notre Dame, Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson, and Tennessee
Scouting Report: Alston is a massive target on the outside that uses his size, wingspan and power to make plays as a short and deep route runner. His size alone, despite a lack of great speed makes him a factor on the deep ball. Drives off the ball and is an imposing figure off the line. He is sneaky and will use his arms or size to gain position on vertical routes and he can lull defenders to sleep with his style and next thing you know he has a step on you on the streak route.
Essentially, Alston is a short-range possession player who is a huge target underneath with a wide catching radius. He will extend and is capable of plucking balls thrown outside of his frame. - ESPN
