Commit Date: Sept. 25, 2013

Recruiting Scene: Mercer has probably flown under the radar as much as any NC State commitment and could end up being the top sleeper in the class.

An accomplished back, Mercer picked up early offers from programs such as Georgia Tech, Tennessee, and Wake Forest before committing to the Wolfpack in the fall.

Even with the coaching change, he never wavered on his commitment to NC State and didn't take any other visits.

Why NC State? "I just felt like they wanted me. I feel like I can be a good asset to their team."

Picked NC State Over: Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State, UCF, and Wake Forest

Scouting Report: Mercer is a versatile back with a lot of upside as a multi-purpose prospect. Not a natural pick and slide runner but is a productive back and pass catcher who can create favorable matchups from the backfield or out in the slot.

Very good stride and top-end speed and has the frame to continue physically developing while retaining it. Long and a bit lanky and lacks the compact body structure of a projected every-down back but his length helps his receiving skills and range if potentially recruited to play defense.

Productive stretch and cut runner at the high school level who combines good up-field quickness, lateral movements through traffic and strength to move the chains. Sees blocks develop and runs with some patience. - ESPN
