Wilson (NC) Hunt S Dexter Wright is a player that the old regime at NC State was very familiar with but the rising senior is just now getting to know Dave Doeren and the new staff in Raleigh.
At 6-3, 205 pounds Wright has tremendous size for a defensive back and he used that effectively to finish up 2012 with 89 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and five pass breakups en route to all conference and all area honors.
A little over a week ago Wright had a chance to visit NC State and he told Pack Pride it gave him an opportunity to interact with the new coaching staff and find out what their plans are for the future.
"It was a great visit," said Wright. "I had a lot of fun out there. I met all the new coaches and got to tour all the facilities again. I had a chance to meet with coach Doeren and see what his plan is going into 2014. It definitely seems like he knows what he wants to do and he has big ideas for it.
"Coach Willis had been the main one recruiting me before. I had visited a couple of times. I went to their first game against the Citadel and I was there for the Florida State game."
On the recruiting front Wright is still waiting for his first offer but he's generated heavy interest from a trio of schools. For the Wolfpack's part, they seem intent on evaluating Wright further before deciding on a potential scholarship offer.
"I'm still waiting for my first offer but I've heard some stuff from some coaches so I just have to be patient and things will just happen when they happen. The ones I'm hearing from most right now are definitely Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest. Everyone likes me as a safety.
"Coach Nielsen is recruiting me now. He's telling me that they just want to watch me more as a senior because I don't think they've had a chance to see me since they're a new coaching staff. I guess they just want to see me more and see what I can do."
Wright says he has just one visit scheduled and he plans to be at Wake Forest on March 23 for the Deac's junior day.
