With Dave Doeren putting together a staff from different parts of the country the Wolfpack have opened recruiting territories that are unfamiliar to the NC State program.
Chicago (IL) Marist tight end Nic Weishar knew assistant coach Eddie Faulkner before he even joined Doeren's staff at NC State. He was familiar with him when he was on Brett Bielema's staff in the same role at Wisconsin. The fact that Faulkner coaches tight ends is an added bonus that makes his relationship with Weishar especially important.
"Coach Faulkner is pretty much who I talk to at NC State. He's the one that made the offer and he's the one I've kept in contact with," Weishar said. "He's really what I know about him, from when he was at Wisconsin. I have a pretty good relationship with him.
"I do know a little bit about (the coaches) from Northern Illinois. They're obviously close to Chicago. I talked to one of my teammates from a couple of years ago that plays at Northern Illinois. (NC State) is a school I'm pretty interested in."
Weishar has never been to NC State and he's not sure when he will visit but he said there's a chance that happens in the future.
With 19 offers Weishar has plenty of schools that he wants to visit so narrowing the field will not be easy. The last offer was from Kansas and other schools are hinting that they could be close to offering as well.
"I was just at Northwestern last weekend and I'm going to Michigan. On April 13 I'm going to Notre Dame," he said. "I don't really have a time frame but I'm hoping I can take more visits in the spring and summer."
Weishar has been offered by most of the schools in the Big Ten as well as several ACC and SEC schools to include Michigan, NC State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Wisconsin among others.
At 6-5, 225 pounds, Weishar is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 14 tight end in the nation by Scout.com.
