NC State was the first school to offer Virginia Beach (VA) Tallwood safety Christian Byrum but they certainly won't be the last as Wisconsin and UNC-Charlotte have since joined the Pack with schools like Temple, East Carolina, Cincinnati, Virginia and Oregon also heavily involved.
Despite missing three games as a junior, Byrum still managed to tally 65 tackles, four tackles for loss, seven pass deflections, and an interception. The 6-1, 195 pound safety was at NC State this past weekend and talked with Pack Pride about his visit to Raleigh.
"This was my first trip to State and it went well," said Byrum. "The coaches really appreciated us coming down. We met at the weight room and they gave us a tour. They had all the equipment set up on a table.
"After that we went and saw a ten minute clip of the players that were in the league. Then we got a tour of the campus, the dorms, the library. Then we headed back to the practice field and watched practice. After that we had lunch. I really like State. It was probably one of the best visits I've had. Coach McNutt is recruiting me and we have a real good relationship. He's a great guy."
Byrum said he has a visit to Old Dominion set up for next week. As for a potential commitment, he says he'll wait until the time is just right. However, he does know which school is out front for that commitment right now.
"It just depends about certain schools. Whenever I get that feeling, that's when I'll make my decision.
"State's definitely at the top right now."
