Gaillard's Recruitment Continues to Explode

Fayetteville (NC) Pine Forest defensive tackle Lamont Gaillard has seen no let up in recruiting interest from big time schools.

Few players in the state of North Carolina have seen the explosion in recruiting interest that Fayetteville (NC) Pine Forest DT Lamont Gaillard has seen over the last six weeks.

In the blink of an eye he went from being a complete unknown on the recruiting trail to a prospect with double digit scholarship offers from the likes of NC State, Clemson, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Georgia among others.

Gaillard proved those offers were well-deserved after an impressive performance at the Shrine Bowl combine held at South Johnston High School. He was measured at 6-3, 316 pounds and was timed at 5.28-seconds in the 40-yard dash. Where he really stood out, however, was during agility drills. Gaillard is very powerful but surprisingly agile and light on his feet for a player weighing in excess of 300 pounds.

On the recruiting side, NC State looked to be one of the team's to beat for Gaillard's commitment but that talk has subsided with the deluge of offers that have arrived recently.

The rising senior just picked up another big-time offer and was fresh off a trip to Gainesville to see the Gators on an unofficial visit.

"Florida State just offered and soon I'll be looking for one from Auburn," Gaillard told Pack Pride. "I just got back from Florida and it was good. I met the coaches, especially coach Lawing. He's coached a lot of people so I'm happy with what I've seen of him.

"I'm going to see Georgia and Alabama during my spring break that starts next Thursday."

Gaillard visited NC State earlier this year so what are his thoughts on the Wolfpack?

"They're good people. I like the way they work. They've come at me hard but I like that. Coach White is recruiting me. He's great. He talks to me every day about making sure I keep my head in the classes but he's a good guy. I'm going back up there during spring break."

Gaillard says he has no favorites right now and a commitment could potentially but months down the road.

"I can't have any favories right now because I've had so many schools come into the picture.

"I might make my decision before but I may do it at the Under Armour all-american game."
