Williams Shines at Shrine Bowl Combine

Fayetteville (NC) E.E. Smith's Arthur Williams was an unknown previously but that's all going to change after a super performance this past weekend.

Look around the internet and you'll be hard pressed to find much written about Fayetteville (NC) E.E. Smith defensive tackle Arthur Williams. It's a safe bet that'll all change in the coming months.

Of the prospects on hand for this past weekend's Shrine Bowl combine held at South Johnston High School, Williams was the most impressive.

He was measured at 6-5, 298 pounds and ran a 5.15-second 40-yard dash while putting up 30 reps of 185 pounds on the bench press.

In drills, Williams was very fluid, showed great body control and tremendous natural ability. He has cat quick reflexes and moves like a player 100 pounds lighter.

The only holdup for Williams currently is academics and if he makes some strides in that area you can look for his recruiting to explode.

Football-wise, Williams says he thinks he's already taken some steps forward over the last couple of months.

"I feel like I've progressed a lot since last year. The off season has really helped me a lot. I think I'm probably going to play defensive tackle (in college). I always gain a lot of weight during the off season but I drop it during the season so it all depends but I prefer playing defensive end. NC State, Clemson, Georgia- they all want me to play tackle."

One of the schools that has positioned themselves to be a major player down the road is NC State. Williams has attended a couple of junior day events in Raleigh and he had nothing but praise for the Wolfpack program.

"I went to their junior day earlier. I love their coaches- coach Nielsen, coach White- I love it. They have a championship mind set which is something I believe in. They believe in stopping the run, then the pass which is something I take pride in. They believe in just shutting the offense down. I love the way they run their system and I think it's something I could adapt to. I just love NC State. Coach White is recruiting me."

NC State isn't the only school in the running as several other programs have shown interest as well.

"I'm also hearing from Clemson, Missouri, Auburn, Miami, Minnesota and ECU.

I'm going to visit Florida, Clemson and LSU this summer."

So what about favorites?

"I would say Geogia, Clemson and NC State. I love South Carolina and then Miami.

"When I was eight, Miami was my favorite. When I got older we moved to Georgia so I switched to Georgia. When I got up here I saw Jadeveon Clowney so I said I wanted to go to South Carolina. I've just been flip-flopping."
