NC State is getting involved with Brandon Dawkins a little bit later than some of the other schools that are recruiting him but the Westlake Village (CA) Oaks Christian quarterback told Pack Pride he will still visit the school.
Prying Dawkins (6-4, 215 pounds) away from the west coast isn't going to be easy but the four-star quarterback isn't ruling any school out based on where they are located.
His offers are from Notre Dame, Utah and NC State so at this point all of his options are a good distance from home. Dawkins will visit Georgia on Thursday of this week and that's a sign that he's serious about schools in different parts of the country.
NC State had been sending Dawkins a lot of mail for a period of weeks until they decided to offer.
"They were probably sending me the most mail out of anybody so the offer wasn't completely random. It's good to pick up the offer. I've been talking to Coach Nielsen a lot lately just touching base and learning a lot about each other.
"It's funny because he went to school about thirty minutes away from my house. He knows a lot of things about where I live. He talks about what he used to do in high school here in the area and we touch base on that kind of level," he said.
That personal touch has helped pique Dawkins' interest in the Wolfpack. He wants to visit the school and said the distance from his home to Raleigh will not hurt NC State when he's making his choice.
"I like traveling and you have to get out in life anyways," Dawkins said. "College is a good time to be able to get away so distance won't be a big problem for me. I'm definitely going to try to get out there. I've made a trip to every school that's offered so far and I want to try to keep that mentality, visiting every school that's offered."
Dawkins is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 17 quarterback in the nation by Scout.com.
