Recruiting the offensive line is a priority in every class and one player that's very near the top of NC State's wish list is Jacksonville (IL) standout Blake Hance.
With scholarship offers under his belt from NC State, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Indiana, Illinois and Wyoming among others, Hance is one of the more sought-after prospects in the midwest region.
Rated a three-star prospect and the No. 23 tight end in the nation by Scout.com, Hance embarked on a road trip a week ago that took him to three schools that he has serious interest in.
"We went to Missouri last Tuesday and then we stayed in Nashville until Thursday morning and went to Vanderbilt real quick," Hance told Pack Pride recently. "They offered while we were there and then we were at NC State on Friday and Saturday."
Hance had a little extra time to check out NC State so what did he think of the his time in Raleigh?
"I loved it there. It's a really nice place. The facilities are great. I loved the coaches and I've had a really good relationship with coach Uremovich and coach Doeren ever since they were at Northern Illinois. The academics are great and I like everything that's going on out there."
Hance talked further about what he was able to experience while at NC State.
"Friday I spent the whole day there touring the facilities and the whole campus. I saw the dorms and all that. Saturday we ate breakfast with the team and sat in on the position meetings, the offensive line meetings. Then we watched practice."
While Scout.com has Hance listed as a tight end, it's likely he'll end up at offensive tackle in college. That's the position the lion's share of schools are recruiting him to play.
"The thing is I play tight end in high school but since I'm 6-6, 265 (pounds) already most people are telling me offensive tackle," said Hance. "So the majority are saying offensive tackle and that's what NC State is. I'm definitely okay with playing that position.
With a several visits now complete, where does NC State fit in with the other schools Hance is considering?
"I like it at State a lot. Right now I'm still trying to make sure I get the best feel for all the places (that are recruiting me). They're definitely high up there on my list.
"In my head I like some things about some places then I like other places. But right now I'm really open."
Hance says he would prefer to get recruiting out of the way in the not-so-distant future but for now, isn't in a rush to make a decision.
"I'm not really setting a time period. I don't want to say I'm going to make my decision on this date. I want to wait until I figure out which place and most comfortable with and which place fits me the best. It could really be anytime."
