Lloyd Looking to Narrow List Soon

Pack Pride catches up with Southern Alamance quarterback Johnathan Lloyd for an update on his recruitment.

With offers on the table from NC State, Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia, Graham (NC) Southern Alamance star athlete Johnathan Lloyd has emerged as one of the most sought after prospects in the state.

At 5-10, 184 pounds Lloyd has the athleticism to play anything from quarterback to wide receiver to safety. While he says has hasn't closed the door on any position, there's no doubt that Lloyd prefers quarterback and any school offering him the chance to play there is likely to have a leg up in his recruiting.

Lloyd has limited most of his visits to the in-state schools with the most recent one happening at Duke. He talked with Pack Pride about that trip.

"I actually had a chance to go to Duke twice," said Lloyd. "The day we got out for spring break I went down and spent the whole day with them. That was a good time. I went back this past Tuesday and watched the two brothers work out. I talked to both the Mannings and it was exciting. It's exciting. You get to see NFL guys but you don't get to see guys like Peyton and Eli Manning so that was just really exciting."

Listening to Lloyd, it was apparent Duke made a serious impression on him.

"I do like Duke. They're doing good things there. They're moving up. The stadium's getting re-done. They're adding some seats."

NC State has been on Lloyd's radar for a while. So what's his thoughts on the Wolfpack?

"I'm high on their list and I like what I've seen with the new staff but that was the first time I met them so I need to follow up and just try to get more comfortable. I've only met them one time so I need to see what I like and what I don't like with the new staff. It's going to be totally different from coach O'Brien."

One selling point for the Pack is their new offense. Lloyd admitted that's a scheme that he feels would fit his skill set perfectly in college.

"The spread appeals to me because it fits me very well. When I was in the quarterback's meeting we went over some of the schemes and stuff and I picked it up. I feel like if I was to go there I could make an immediate impact."

Lloyd is nowhere near a decision and plans to make several additional visits over the coming months as he tries to narrow down his favorites.

"I need to hit Clemson. I've seen the other schools like Duke, Carolina, Wake. So the ones I haven't seen like Notre Dame, Florida and the ones that are farther away, I plan to see them this summer. Then after that I'll have a good idea.

"But I like Duke. I like Notre Dame and Florida although I haven't visited. I wouldn't say they're favorites but I'll make my list soon and from there we'll see who my favorites are."
