Marcus Allen's last visit was to Penn State and that went well but he is still thinking a lot about a recent trip to Raleigh.
He visited NC State just before going to Penn State and the Wolfpack apparently impressed the Upper Marlboro (MD) Wise High School standout in a big way. NC State isn't alone in their pursuit of Allen, however, as Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Georgia Tech and Purdue have all stopped by his school in the past couple of weeks. The four star safety is just trying to process everything.
Allen is not ready to narrow his list down just yet but NC State is in good shape based on how his trip to the school went.
"I visited Wake Forest and that trip was also the time when I visited NC State," said Allen. "I missed the practice because I had been at Wake Forest but I still had a great trip. I liked NC State a lot to be honest. The facilities were beautiful. The coaches seemed like they love me as far as the head coach and Coach McNutt. He's my recruiting coach.
"Coach McNutt is my boy. It seems like the way he's recruiting me, we're real close. It's like we're friends."
NCSU is recruiting Allen as a free safety. The coaches have not spoken with Allen about the terminology of the defense or their usual schemes, coverages and blitzes, but they have told him that he fits exactly what they want to do.
"They just said I fit the system. Coach Doeren just wants me to be a part of the Wolfpack."
McNutt has visited Wise to see Allen since then and while they could not speak at length simply showing up can make a difference.
Penn State impressed the 6-2 defensive back as well even though the program still has to deal with the lingering effects of probation.
"I loved it there. The alumni were there and a lot of the people I know on the team were there. They showed me a great time. It wasn't just the football life, but off the football side and around the campus the fans were outstanding. They asked for my autograph and I barely knew who anybody was. That's crazy. That was the first time anybody asked for my autograph," Allen said.
Allen is rated the nation's 23rd best safety according to Scout.com and holds offers from NC State, Penn State, Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Nebraska and Michigan among others. His teammate, Micah Till, has already committed to NC State.
