With better than 20 scholarship offers in the bag including pledges from NC State, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Louisville, UNC, South Carolina and Wisconsin, Hallandale (FL) safety John Battle has emerged as one of the most sought after defenders in the nation.
At 6-1, 180 pounds Battle is rated a three star prospect and the No. 60 safety in the nation but it's a safe bet that ranking will only rise in the coming months. As a junior he tallied 38 tackles, 12 pass breakups, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and a forced fumble.
Battle is set to embark on a tour of several schools that he has high interest in. First up will be LSU- a team that very well may be the program to beat for his commitment. Later in the week the rising senior will be in North Carolina with an opportunity to see the Wolfpack for the first time.
"Yeah, I'll be visiting NC State this coming Thursday," Battle told Pack Pride. "They have a great coaching staff up there. Coach McNutt is the guy that has been recruiting me. He's been telling me a lot of good things so far. Right now, I just want to go up there so I can learn some more about their program and what their school can offer me besides just football."
In addition to LSU and NC State, Battle added that he has several other schools that he plans to visit in the coming weeks.
"I'm also looking at Tennessee, Louisville, South Carolina, UNC and there's some more too but those are the ones I'm visiting this summer."
Battle doesn't have a time frame for a decision and currently lists no favorites.
