NC State may not have known a lot about James Kenan RB Marcelias Sutton prior to the Wolfpack's camp last week but it didn't take long for him to make a believer out of the Pack's coaching staff.
Folks around Warsaw will tell you that there's no one better than Sutton in the area and he backed that up with an eye-popping workout at NC State's camp. Measured at 5-9, 177 pounds, Sutton ran an impressive 4.45-second 40-yard dash, logged a 4.08-second shuttle and had an astounding 11-5 broad jump.
In individual drills Sutton was extremely fluid, smooth and showed a great burst and change of direction. All of that culminated in easy decision to offer Sutton and that was rewarded on Tuesday when Sutton committed to NC State.
"Yes sir, I committed this morning," said Sutton. "The coaching staff sold me and how everybody is together. It seemed like everyone there is down to earth. State offered me the day after camp and it made me feel real good."
Sutton pondered the offer a few days before contacting Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren this morning about his decision.
"I talked to coach Doeren this morning," he said. "We talked about my scholarship. He told me how glad he was that I was joining them and I was excited, too. Coach Kitchings was recruiting me and he was just as excited."
In addition to NC State, Sutton held offers from East Carolina, UNC-Charlotte, NC Central and NC A&T.
As a junior, Sutton rushed for 1,804 yards on 203 carries (8.89 ypc average) and 26 total touchdowns.
