Hampton (VA) Bethel defensive tackle Ricky Walker is hoping to make things easier on himself soon. He wants to narrow his list of college options to a much smaller number.
Walker is still open to any coaches that want to talk to him and make their case but that might change before too long. He told Pack Pride last week that in the next two weeks he wants to try to narrow his list of favorites to five.
It's still going to be a while before he makes a decision.
"I kind of do want to take officials so I think I'm going to do that," Walker said.
Even before that he plans to return to Virginia Tech for another visit with the Hokies. That's going to happen sometime in July and it will most likely be just an unofficial. He has already been to North Carolina and Pitt this summer and both schools are still under consideration.
Walker visited NC State when the Wolfpack program was under the guidance of Tom O'Brien but he hasn't been back since. He wants to get back to Raleigh to meet with Dave Doeren.
"The coaches are great now. They definitely believe in relationships and staying in contact and just being great people. I stay in contact with Coach McNutt and we've got a pretty good relationship. He came to the school. We've talked and stay in contact on Facebook and Twitter. He's a very good guy. I've talked to the defensive line coach too.
"They're really telling me about the new coaching staff and just letting me get to know all the coaches. They want me to come down. They're still trying to get me down there for a visit. They're telling me the defensive line is a critical point for them. They're losing about two or three guys and they're recruiting about four so they want guys that can get ready to play."
At 6-2, 275 pounds, Walker is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 36 defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com.
