RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media following the first day of fall practice.

"What I love to do is coach."

"We've got a long way to go, but it's fun to be back out here working."

"I saw more bodies than we saw in the spring. It was good to have Pete knowing what he was doing and Brandon threw the ball well today."

"It was good at the end for the freshmen to get some snaps in as well."

"There were a lot of new guys in and out of there, but it will get faster as we go."

"It was good. It's been a hard week. We're starting camp and still in summer school... I thought they came out with good energy for it being a long day."

"I was just excited to come out here. For me, it's kind of like a puzzle. You try to move the pieces around and make them fit. You really don't know what they all do yet. For me, today was just a good start."

"I'm happy to be back out here."

"Both of those guys are 240 pounds. It's nice to have that kind of durability [at quarterback]."

"He played power forward too on the basketball team. He has to get his timing, but he's got a really live arm. He threw the ball pretty well today for a guy who played wide receiver last year."

"We have a Leadership Council."

"We'll see how camp goes and I think there will be some more guys who get a chance."
