Doeren Confirms Hooker's Transfer

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Dave Doeren confirmed today that redshirt freshman defensive tackle K'Hadree Hooker has transferred to East Carolina.

Dave Doeren confirmed today that redshirt freshman defensive tackle K'Hadree Hooker has transferred.

Hooker referenced the transfer on Twitter on Thursday, and he had been removed from the team's official roster.

According to Doeren, Hooker made the decision to transfer due to a potential lack of playing time.

"K'Hadree was just buried on the depth chart and felt like he was going to struggle to get on the field," said Doeren. "He's a great kid, and we love him. There were no negative things that happened between him or anyone else.

"He just came in and said he really wants to play earlier than he thinks he can play here."

Hooker, who is originally from Deep Run, North Carolina, elected to transfer to East Carolina, and Doeren said he helped him with the move.

"He's from that area down there," said Doeren. "I said how can I help you? I called down [to East Carolina] and talked to their coaching staff. I know their head coach really well, he's a good friend.

"I said, 'we have a young man, we'd love to have him stay, but it's going to take him longer than he wants to play and he'd like to come down there.' It's just a deal that worked out. I'm here to help guys. If they don't feel like this is the best fit for them then we'll help them move on."

"We won't play against K'Hadree because he has to sit this year and we don't play ECU for three years afterwards," said Doeren. "It is our university policy not to let kids leave... interconference handles itself because of the ACC rule, but anyone that is on our current schedule [is a school rule].

"But, in his case, he's not going to play against our team and we felt that was okay."

Hooker enrolled at NC State in 2012 and redshirted last season.

The move leaves NC State with seven scholarship defensive tackles, and the Wolfpack already has commitments from three potential defensive tackles.
