NOTES: Pack Routs Bulldogs

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Here are some postgame notes from NC State's 40-14 win over Louisiana Tech.

NC State's 542 total yards of offense on the day were the most in a season opener for the Pack since NC State had 592 against Western Carolina in 1990.

  • First-year head coach Dave Doeren saw his offense score 40 points, the most points in the debut game of a Wolfpack coach since Monte Kiffin's 1980 squad down William & Mary 42-0.

  • NC State opened the game scoring on its first two offensive possessions. Tony Creecy's 3-yd TD run capped a 7-play, 65-yard drive to open the game. Matt Dayes followed on the next possession with a 2-yard score capping a 5-play, 75-yard drive.

  • The last time NC State scored a TD on its first offensive possession in the first game of the season was in 2005 against Virginia Tech.

  • The last time NC State scored back-to-back TDs on its first two possessions in the first game of the season was in 2003 against Western Carolina.

  • Freshman RB Matt Dayes found the endzone three times on the day, the second-most touchdowns in a single game for a freshman running back (T.A. McLendon had 5 at Texas Tech in 2002). Dayes became only the 10th player in school history to rush for three or more TDs in a game.

  • Junior Niklas Sade was a perfect 4-of-4 on field goals, hitting from 38, 22, 45, and 24 yards. Sade set a new career-high, as his previous was three against Clemson in 2011 and Wake Forest in 2012. The four field goals made ties as the second-most in school history.

  • NC State won the time of possession battle, 40:45-19:15, marking the Pack's largest amount in time of possession since 2007 against Miami (43:07).

  • The following true freshmen made their NC State debuts: WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, QB Josh Taylor, CB Sean Paul, S Dravious Wright, WR Bra'Lon Cherry, FB/QB Bryant Sherriffs, WR Johnathan Alston, RB Matt Dayes, CB Jack Tocho, WR Jumichael Ramos, DT Monty Nelson.
