Recently, Indiana, Michigan State and Louisville have seemingly been the teams to beat for Indianapolis (IND) Decatur Central OL Lukayus McNeil. That was until last weekend. Now NC State has joined the mix after hosting McNeil on his first official visit. Pack Pride caught up with him for the latest on how the trip went.
"It was great," said McNeil. "I loved it there. I'm not going to
lie, everything down there was great. The whole time I was there I
didn't think about being so far away from home or anything like that
so it was pretty surprising. Usually when I go on a visit I think
about how far it is and everything else but I didn't think about
that at all while I was there."
At 6-7, 275 pounds, McNeil is a mammoth prospect that is know for
his nasty streak on the field. While in Raleigh he had a chance to
connect with the coaches and experience the game day atmosphere in
Carter-Finley Stadium for the first time.
"The coaches were great. Everyone was showing me love. The players
knew me. The fans knew me even before I got there. The whole
atmosphere was great.
"Coach Uremovich has been recruiting me. We have gotten real close
but when I got there, I got close to all the coaches exactly the
same. They like me at left tackle and I'm loving it."
McNeil is sitting at 18 offers including schools like NC State,
Louisville, Virginia Tech, Purdue and Oklahoma among others. While
he's made unofficial trips to Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State and
Purdue, McNeil doesn't have any additional official visits planned
As for NC State, the Wolfpack made up a ton of ground during
McNeil's official visit and now find themselves as a major player
for his commitment.
"State is definitely at the top. They're one of the top teams.
They're not in the lead but they are one of my top schools."
McNeil is rated a three-star offensive lineman and the No. 56
offensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com.
